Long gone are the days of harsh Instagram edits, crazy filters, and unplanned posts. Today, Instagram is all about unlocking your inner photographer and creating content that captures reality, in an enhanced light. If improving your Instagram game is something that interests you, keep reading.
1. Pick an Aesthetic and Stick With It
An Instagram aesthetic refers to the look of your feed and the feeling it creates. It is a way to make your content look like one curated collection, rather than a bunch of random disconnected moments. SkedSocial.com suggests picking a theme or color scheme and sticking with it. Take photos in locations that match your theme or edit your photos so that your color theme matches. An added tip is to match the cover of your Instagram story highlights to your theme.
2. Perfect Your Bio
Instagram bios are an opportunity for viewers to get a quick glimpse of your page before diving into your posts. Some tips: be sure to pick a clear profile pic, create a bio that speaks to you and your brand, and use Instagram story highlights to showcase your personality.
3. Learn to Take Good Photos
Hootsuite.com has some great tips on how to take good Instagram photos. The biggest takeaways are to use natural light, don’t over-edit your photos, try different angles, and follow the rule of thirds. This rule suggests breaking an image down into thirds (vertically and horizontally) so you have nine pieces and four gridlines. The subject of your photo should be placed where the lines intersect to add more dynamics. A bonus tip is to always make sure your lens is clean before capturing the shot and to not be afraid to try the .5 lens.
4. Use Hashtags
If expanding your following is a goal of yours, use hashtags! When you use a hashtag, your post will appear under that hashtag when people search for it. It’s a great way to make your profile discoverable.
Although we could dive in much deeper with all of these steps, this basic overview is great to keep in the back of your mind the next time you are posting on Instagram to step up your game.
